– Fortnite to have Sub-Region matchmaking
– This should improve performance related to ping
– Starting in Southeast-Asian region first, then expanding
– Performacce improvements are a great sign from Epic Games
Fortnite have been working on sub-region matchmaking and they are now releasing it in the Southeast Asian region, but what is it and why does is matter?
The short answer is that SRM should improve in-game performance if you have been having ping-related issues. The idea, as Epic Games have explained it, is that they will now be determining which data centre in your area will offer you the best performance and will put you in a queue for that centre, maximising the in-game experience.
Depending on wait times and other factors you won’t always be sent to best data-centre for performance if, for example, you would have to wait an excessive amount of time for a game. Also, some players might notice a significant performance boost while others may not experience much/any at all — we are assuming this would be for the lucky @*%^&£ who live on the server.
So, Epic Games are making game performance better by working on how their servers interact with players. This is great news. It’s only in parts of Asian right now but they plan to expand it.
We see this as a great sign from Epic Games. They seem to be really concerned with performance and the user experience. Good work Epic Games!
